Thomas Mann was born in Northampton, Pennsylvania, and raised in the Allentown, Pennsylvania. At sixteen he went to work at a silversmith’s. He also started selling his bangles in high school to make some extra cash. This is where is fascination with jewelry began. Unlike most other leading jewelry artists and designers, Thomas Mann is neither the product of a conventional university nor an art school education as a product designer or a jewelry-metal smith. He started out as a physical education major, but after forging his advisor’s signature to take art classes, he ended up graduating with a degree in Performing Arts. He developed his Techno.Romantic style in 1977. He sold every piece from his first show. Around this time he moved to New Orleans, which is where he resides today.
