Pottery Studio
In the Diving Cat Pottery Studio Markels works in earthenware red clay, stoneware, and porcelain to create both functional, and nonfunctional ceramic pieces.
Clay allows her to work in three dimensions with few limitations.
Many of Markels’ favorite subjects are found in the forest: animals, bugs, leaves, rocks and sticks. These themes are sculpted and also illustrated on vessels. Her pieces display a broad palette of color utilizing both representatioal and abstract design. Sculptures of dogs, cats and birds are also recurring themes in her work.
Markels teaches pottery handbuilding techniques in her studio year round in an intimate class environment limited to 5 participants, where students are surrounded by the art of the studio, and gallery!
